As such, it wasn't surprising to see AT&T come out with a incredibly dumb blog post this week supporting Trump's legally dubious and hugely problematic executive order targeting social media giants. You know, the plan that not only isn't enforceable by the agencies supposedly tasked with enforcing it (the FCC), but that also risks creating a massive new censorship paradigm across the entire internet. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20200902/11074145232/att-is-astroturfing-fcc-support-trumps-dumb-attack-social-media.shtml -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200905035717.GA5639@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 5 Sep 2020 03:57:17 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: AT&T cell towers down in parts of Placer County, sheriff's office says AUBURN, Calif. - Cell towers for AT&T in a few areas in Placer County will be down until midnight, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said Thursday night. "If you have AT&T as your cell phone provider, you may not be able to make any outgoing calls, or receive calls," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. "You also may not be able to get through to 911." https://www.kcra.com/article/atandt-cell-towers-down-in-parts-of-placer-county-sheriffs-office-says/33920926 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200905033147.GA5501@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 5 Sep 2020 03:31:47 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: U.S. Customs Opens Mass Searches of Data on Confiscated Traveler Smartphones, Computers I am an advocate of providing law enforcement officers the newest technology to do their jobs well. If there is a recording of an event, the police should be able to use it. If a stingray can capture cell phone conversation, with appropriate procedural limitation, an officer should be able to listen and record. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/us-customs-opens-mass-searches-data-confiscated-traveler-smartphones-computers -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sun, 06 Sep 2020
