For used phones I prefer swappa.com which specializes in phones and does IMEI checks before accepting listings you know the phone isn't stolen. I see an unlocked Motorola G7 power, a pretty good 2019 phone, for $87. If you don't insist on the newest fanciest phones, there are some very good deals. It would be nice if you could use a 40 year old mobile phone like you can use a 40 year old landline phone, but that's not going to happen. Here is a picture of my 40 year old landline phone. Works great. To its right you can see the add-on Caller-ID box which isn't much newer. https://photos.app.goo.gl/i8X8JNRA7HCGSVXf9 R's, John

Blame Their Labor Practices By Michael Sainato Workers at two corporate-run Verizon retail stores north of Seattle, Washington - in Everett and Lynnwood, respectively - voted to unionize in April 2022, becoming the first retail stores outside of New York to do so. About 15 workers across the two locations voted nearly unanimously to unionize with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), after their request for voluntary recognition in March 2022 was rejected by Verizon. https://therealnews.com/hate-verizons-customer-service-blame-their-labor-practices -- (Please remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly)

Wireless carriers exploited the excess capacity on next-generation networks to win traditional broadband-internet users, while cable companies retaliated with new and cheaper cellphone plans. The competition, in several instances, helped consumers to beat inflation. The cost of internet service rose by 1.7% in July year-on-year. The consumer-price index rose 8.5% in July, WSJ wrote. https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/08/28598012/customers-gain-as-wireless-carriers-t-mobile-verizon-at-t-battle-it-out-with-broadband-internet-prov
