Are you running out of AC outlets for your Wall-wart transformers?

There are so many Black Friday deals still up for grabs that it’s hard to decide where to invest. But what if you could get a phone and not have to pay anything upfront? Metro by T-Mobile has an interesting promotion running in partnership with Walmart stores where customers can get a free phone, if they’re willing to purchase and activate an unlimited plan. https://www.phonearena.com/news/Metro-TMobile-free-phones-Walmart-stores_id143696 ************************** Moderator's Note ************************** This is a subject near to me: I'm in the process of selecting a phone to take the place of the 4G LTE phone my wife has to give up because Verizon Mobile got greedy. Can anyone recommend a lightweight, voice-activated, and VERY tough cellphone that she could use? Bill Horne

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected the bid by Ward, who chairs the Arizona Republican Party, to shield the record of her calls and texts from the committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot. The justices gave no reason for their decision. Monday's order leaves Ward with no recourse. But Alexander Kolodin, her attorney, said there is something to be said about the fact that Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the order. They said they would have granted her request to delay the order of U.S. District Court Judge Diane Humetewa directing T-Mobile, the company that has the records, to surrender them to Congress and let the full court debate the issue. https://www.kawc.org/news/2022-11-15/congressional-panel-to-find-out-who-was-communicating-with-arizona-republican-chair-on-jan-6

I have long experienced the pains of trying to plug in multiple wall warts. I found a solution to this issue quite a few years ago. For the benefit of those who are not in the know: A 'wall wart' is an electrical device that plugs into a 120 VAC outlet and provides electricity to a electrical device such as a calculator, radio, SOHO router, etc.. When you have more than one or two of them, their size makes them extremely difficult to plug in. This is because they are so big that they crowd out adjacent receptacles. I previously [meaning quite a few years ago] made a post describing a device that was the solution. It was manufactured by APC. That device [a surge protector] has been discontinued. However, APC has a replacement product for it. Take a look at this: https://www.apc.com/us/en/product/P11VNT3/apc-performance-surgearrest-11-outlet-with-phone-splitter-coax-and-ethernet-protection-120v/ Notice that there are six outlets that are separated enough to allow you to plug in six wall warts without any difficulty. And there are five additional outlets for standard power cords. It also provides surge protection for your cable TV/cablemodem connections. Surge protection for a standard telephone line and an Ethernet connection are also provided. You can get a better price for it than what is shown on the APC Web site. Search on P11VNT3 and you will find quite a few vendors that sell it. The price widely varies so shop around. Here is the same device on the B&H Photo site: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/626301-REG/APC_P11VNT3_SurgeArrest_Performance.html?msclkid=5781aec7a38e1c0ffa11cdb434a4b026 You see that the price is considerably less. I have several of them as I have a lot of networking equipment at home as well as some radios (NOAA Weather Radio / Scanner) and home entertainment devices. I have never had one fail (and I am still using a few of the discontinued models I purchased over fifteen years ago. No failures with them, either). They have provided me with very good and reliable service. Perhaps this will solve a problem or two for our technology friends here on Telecom Digest. Regards, Fred Atkinson
